Monongahela Valley Hospital Donates Defibrillator to Monongahela Police

When someone is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, the availability of a defibrillator can make the difference between life and death. The residents of Monongahela can sleep a little easier knowing that one of the City of Monongahela's police patrol cars is now equipped with an automated external defibrillator (AED) through the generosity of Monongahela Valley Hospital. Through the Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation, the Hospital was able to donate the portable device to the police department.

Walking into the office of Monongahela Valley Hospital's Center for Children's Rehabilitation with a giant bag of books Marc Scott, of The Olivia Scott Foundation (OSF), looked like Santa Claus delivering gifts to the children. "Seeing a smile on their faces when looking at a new book gives me goose bumps," said Mr. Scott. "Promoting education is one of the reasons we created this foundation."

Spaghetti Dinner Raises Funds for MVH Wig Salon

The Wig Salon at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) was recently gifted funds raised at a Spaghetti Dinner honoring the life of a local woman. On April 17, Hugo's Restaurant in Centerville was filled with community members for the inaugural Carolyn G. Bundash Memorial Spaghetti Dinner. The event was hosted by Carolyn's husband, Michael Bundash III, and daughters, Michelle Alton and Melissa Fitch.

Monongahela Valley Hospital's Gala 30, sponsored by the Mon-Vale Health Resources Fund Development Committee and MVH's Office of Fund Development, was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Wyndham Grand in downtown Pittsburgh on May 19, 2018. The annual black-tie fundraiser took guests to a galaxy far, far away with the theme "Galactic Night."

Drink Pink at Local McDonald's to Fight Breast Cancer

This fall order a "pink drink" from one of six local McDonald's Restaurants and the proceeds will go to the MVH/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk aiding the prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer at Monongahela Valley Hospital. The "Drink Pink" campaign began last year when Joe and Joni Carone, owners of six McDonald's restaurants in the Mon Valley region, decided to take proceeds of "pink drinks" (strawberry milkshakes and strawberry-banana smoothies) from the McCafe menu and donate it to MVH.

Comedy Helps Start New Service at Mon Valley Hospital

Laurie Chester, a two-time cancer survivor who works in the Human Resources Department at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH), sponsored a comedy event to raise funds for the recently opened Wig Salon in the Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center. The salon is a new service and certified by the American Cancer Society. It provides wigs and other accessories to people undergoing cancer treatment therapy at no charge.

During Breast Cancer Awareness month, students, family members, faculty and spectators helped to raise over $1,000.

Volunteers Donate Dignity Robes to MVH Cancer Center

A group of parishioners from Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora have made another donation of handmade dignity robes for breast cancer patients at Monongahela Valley Hospitals' Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center. The recent donation of 11 robes was given to Medical Oncology for the first time. Prior donations were made to Radiation Oncology. "The compassion and hard work put into these gowns is evident in every stitch. Our patients will feel that love when they wear them," said Lisa Eicher, MSN, RN, OCN, MVH oncology nurse navigator.

Glimmer of Hope Foundation continues battle against breast cancer in the Mon Valley

A Glimmer of Hope Foundation has been raising funds for breast cancer research since 1994, and the Foundation recently presented Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) with a $5,000 gift to continue funding innovations in breast cancer treatment and care. The donation will be used to support the purchase of Tomosynthesis (Tomo), 3-D breast imaging technology, at the hospital's main campus. MVH currently operates a digital mammography unit at HealthPlex Imaging in Rostraver Township. This initiative is to assist the hospital in obtaining 3-D technology at the main campus as well.
